Joining Hamas and the beginning of jihad
Concurrent with the First Intifada, he joined Hamas. He rose steadily through the ranks, from cultural work to active membership in the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. After completing strategic training, by 2000 he had become a field commander and contributed to planning several significant operations against Israeli targets.
