The wave of lslamic awakening that spread across Arab countries also motivated the Yemeni people to stand up against the U.S. backed government. Ansar Allah in Yemen experienced a revival fueled by this popular uprising. In 2014, the Houthis, with the support of the people of Sanaa, took control of the capital of Yemen.
